Super Funny Superhero Daddy Story

Okay.. this post is kinda random, and David will probably think I'm silly for posting this, but I want to remember this Father's Day. The girls and I went to Walmart to pick up some things, and we were passing through the Men's clothing section. (Lizzie is obsessed with boy underwear, and she would prefer to wear since it has cooler pictures on them) Well she spotted Men's Superman undies. She hopped out of the cart and ran to them, and wouldn't put them down. She wanted to get them for David so badly. Well I tried everything for her to put them down, but she wouldn't. So I put her in the cart and told her she could hold them. She was the happiest little girl showing anyone and everyone this pair of underwear, and explaining to everyone how she was going to get them for her dad for Father's Day. I quickly finished my shopping and headed back to the underwear section to see how much they were since Lizzie had her heart set on them for David. They were $8.00 for ONE PAIR!!!! There was no way I was going to spend that much money on one pair of underwear. I tired everything to get Lizzie to put them down. I looked for a cheaper pair, but NOTHING was working.
Then my light bulb went off! My Ah-Ha moment as Oprah calls it. Freezer paper stencils and then David could have multiple pairs of SUPER HERO undies. I explained my idea to Lizzie and told her she could help make lots of SUPER HERO undies for Daddy. She was super excited, and she finally put the Super undies down. I walked out of Wal-mart with 5 pairs of undies for $9.00.. Way better deal!!! So the freezer paper stencils started, and here we are with the SUPER HERO DADDY PACK "For all your crime fighting needs!"
Lizzie and I finished the undies a week or so before Father's Day, and Lizzie was super excited about giving them to David. She kept telling me Daddy needed more Batman undies, but I explained he needed different kinds for all his crime fighting needs. Father's Day was FINALLY here and Lizzie was so excited to give David her gift. David loved them, what dad wouldn't RIGHT? Hooray for crazy ideas put to good use!

Lizzie our little photo taking princess

Lizzie and Krislynn LOVE taking pictures. I grabbed my camera this morning to take a picture of something, and noticed that my card was filled. So I checked to see what I could delete... well lets just say that Lizzie and Krislynn went on a photo taking adventure around the house. I guess I should have kept some of the pictures they took, but I just loved the ones Lizzie took of Krislynn in their tent. Hooray for fun adventures, and ten minutes of deleting random pictures :)

Our Garden

Ever since I was little I have always wanted a garden, but growing up in the mountains where the wind blows all summer long, and it doesn't get that hot makes gardening kinda impossible. I can remember Amanda Fenn always coming home from her grandparents house in Az, and telling me about all the wonderful things they got to eat out of the garden while they were visiting, and always hoping they brought some home to share with me. Or when Grandma and Grandpa Fenn would come and visit and they would bring over their watermelon.. I can still taste the juiciness of those melons. YUMMY! So after moving here I decided I wanted to have a garden. I decided this was the year, and not really knowing anything about gardening I planted my crop, and hoped we would get at least something to harvest to show the girls. Well the first harvest came and the girls were so excited. The girls want to pick everything now, but I explain each time we water the different veggies are not ready to be picked yet, but once they are they can help me harvest them. The picture of the garden was taken about 2 weeks ago, and everything is in bloom now. So hopefully this month we will get a good pickling. Our backyard is all weeds except the back corner where the garden is, maybe by next summer we can get the backyard finished since the front yard is almost complete.

Craft Night was a success!!!

pour enough milk in the bottom of the pan to cover the entire bottom of pan

squirt a couple drops of each food coloring bottle in the middle of your pan
Add a drop or two of dish soap and watch what happens.
Now go and do it!

Another super fun freezer paper stencil

S'mores Chocolate Covered Brownie Balls, recipe by Katrina

1 box 9x13 brownies mix, made according to directions, cooled (you only need about 9x9 size of them, this way you'll have some leftover for snacking! ;)

1 package graham crackers, finely ground crumbs

5 ounces marshmallows

2 tablespoons butter

12 oz. chocolate chips

1 tablespoon shortening

candy sprinkles, for decoration

Make brownies according to package directions. Cool completely. Pulse graham crackers in a food processor until fine crumbs. Crumble brownies into food processor and pulse together with graham cracker crumbs. Melt together butter and marshmallows in pot on stove . Put the brownie and graham cracker mixture into a large bowl. Add the melted marshmallow and stir together with a wooden spoon.

Make about 1 inch balls of mixture and set on a wax paper lined baking sheet. Freeze for about an hour. Melt chocolate chips in microwave safe dish in 20-30 second intervals. When melted and smooth, add shortening. Dip brownies balls completely into chocolate by setting one on a spoon. Slide off the spoon with a fork onto waxed paper. Sprinkle each immediately after dipping. Let set. For a quick set, set baking sheet in freezer or refrigerator. Upon serving or giving these away, set each one into candy size liners. Makes about 30.

*This recipe is not from me, but from another Katrina. They are super yummy!

Freezer paper Stencils

So I have been dying to use freezer paper stencils, but just never really got around to it. It is super simple, and a lot of fun. All you need is: Freezer paper, a design you would like to use, and something to cut out your design. Before Christmas, one of David's friends came out to visit us. He was just about to graduate from LA's Art Design School, and we asked if he would design some stencils for us to use on the girls jeep. Well the jeep never got stenciled, but as I was looking up stenciling yesterday I found the stencils Steve had made us, and thought I would try one out on a shirt of Lizzie's. I thought it turned out pretty cute. Lizzie calls it her pirate shirt, and she is excited to show it to everyone. Thanks again Steve for your amazing skillz!
